Omaha, Neb. (Aug. 27, 2014)—Omaha insurance broker/consultant Scott M. Stevens, RHU, CDHC, of S.M. Stevens and Associates and NP Dodge Insurance, has been awarded the 2014 HIU Award for Excellence in Journalism. His ongoing health insurance/healthcare blog interpreting the changing healthcare marketplace over the last year was cited for its merits, along with his contributions to NAHU’s monthly trade magazine, Health Insurance Underwriter. In making the award, Martin Carr, the editor of Health Insurance Underwriter magazine, a publication of NAHU, said about Stevens’s articles, “Yours stood out for their clarity, timeliness and value to NAHU members.”

Stevens began writing the blog nearly two years ago as a guide to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) because his business clients needed clarity, understanding, and strategy relating to the many regulations and changes in healthcare and insurance.

“When I launched my healthcare/health insurance blog in early 2013, I had no idea it would become as popular and useful as it has. This award motivates me to continue interpreting and communicating the changing maze of updates, regulations, rulings, and guidelines affecting my clients and stakeholders,” Stevens said.

The online blog is currently free and available at http://sstevenshealthcare.blogspot.com/. Stevens said there are over 500 followers and growing. He has explained topics such as the Supreme Court rulings affecting ACA, the obesity problem, prescription drug costs and options, Health Savings Accounts, Health Reimbursement Arrangements, Consumer Driven Healthcare, self-funding, and the future of healthcare, to name just a few.

Stevens has been active in the health insurance and employee benefits sectors for nearly 30 years as an insurance executive, wholesaler, and broker, and currently works with employer clients employing over 20,000 employees in several states. In addition to being a published author, he is also a nationally recognized speaker and consultant in the areas of healthcare financing and delivery.
